Elixir Technologies Provides Solution for
Simplifying Migration from Oracle DocuMerge to HP Exstream Software
VENTURA, CA – September 9, 2009 – Elixir Technologies Corporation, a leading developer of software for creating and managing high-value documents, today announced the availability of a document conversion solution that simplifies migration from Oracle DocuMerge to the HP Exstream enterprise document automation platform. Oracle recently announced that extended support for DocuMerge ends in April, 2010. Elixir’s Blue Ocean conversion solution preserves insurer and other DocuMerge customer’s investment in regulated forms and other documents, and significantly reduces the time and cost to migrate to HP Exstream.
With over 700 insurance customers, Elixir is the de facto standard for designing policy and other insurance forms requiring government or regulatory approval. Today, a significant number of insurance companies have tens of thousands of Elixir designs approved and in production. HP Exstream has been named by Celent as the foremost enterprise platform in the insurance industry for document and content management for the fourth consecutive year1.
”Elixir has been developing conversion products since 1986,” said Denise Davert, Senior VP of marketing for Elixir. “Conversion technology is complex and for purposes of this industry, the result must be an exact match between the original and new file format. Any other result requires editing the document and resubmission for government approval. With huge libraries of approved forms existing in Elixir format this could mean years of work and cost millions of dollars.”
“With Oracle’s recent announcement to formally cease support for DocuMerge, insurance carriers and other customers are faced with the important decision of what to do next,” said Steve Gross, VP of business development for Exstream at HP. “Elixir’s Blue Ocean document conversion solution for HP Exstream makes it easy for Oracle DocuMerge customers to migrate to our market-leading document automation technology.”
The migration path away from DocuMerge is very straight forward. All documents and associated resources are now stored, tracked and managed in Blue Ocean and the conversion process results in an HP Exstream file with 100 percent fidelity to the original where regulatory compliance requires it.

Elixir Announces QuarkXPress® XTensions Enabling Dynamic Publishing VENTURA, CA – March 26, 2009 – Elixir Technologies Corporation today announced the launch of QuickStep Data XTensions for QuarkXPress and QuarkXPress Server®.
Elixir's QuickStep Data XTensions use data along with business rules to format the final print or PDF output uniquely for each recipient - all from one QuarkXPress layout. This means that each brochure, catalogue or other piece marketing piece can be personalized using any data available within the company databases.
This is not mail merge; QuickStep is true rules-based publishing where conditional logic drives how each finished piece is formatted. Any element can be dynamic based on the conditions set for the layout including:
- Graphics, illustrations and other imagery
- Messaging, and other text elements
- Color, fonts, and other special effects
The QuickStep Data XTensions allow graphic designers to integrate variable messages, images, and other elements with point-and-click tools without leaving the QuarkXPress design interface. The solution offers two paths to data mapping and business rules creation. The work can be done within the QuarkXPress designer or alternatively in the Elixir QuickStep Logic Studio --- a web-based interface that allows data management activities be done separately. Once completed in the Logic Studio the business rules are exposed within QuarkXPress so they may be added to the QuarkXPress layout.
