Elixir’s Opus Archive Provides Fast,
Efficient,
Browser-Based Document Storage and Retrieval
VENTURA, CA – May 1, 2006 – Elixir
Technologies Corporation, a leading developer of software for creating
and managing high-value documents of all types, today announced Opus
Archive, a document archive system closely coupled to Opus, the
company’s document design software for data-driven printing. Opus
Archive also securely stores printstreams, images, email messages and
documents from other sources.
Opus Archive indexes everything on a page while loading its database,
including the positions of all information. By dramatically reducing the
search space by adding location as a variable, Opus Archive can search
terabytes of documents in seconds or less, a search rate that persists
regardless of the size of the archive. This functionality permits
searches such as “find social security numbers starting with ‘447’ that
appear at this location on the page.” Archive managers don’t have to
know in advance how the database will be used—they can design simple or
complex searches on the fly, share the new search screens with company
users, enabling archival searching without rebuilding or other delays.
Opus Archive is accessed and managed through a web-browser interface and
can act as a server for customer applications or even for other document
management systems that are less capable when handling large numbers of
retained documents.
Opus Archive uses optional integrated Elixir transformation utilities to
convert printstreams to Adobe® Acrobat® PDF files that appear identical
to the printed versions. The process can be automated using a directory
watch option where Opus Archive monitors a directory and automatically
loads the documents as they are created. These archived originals can be
located, then printed, routed, annotated, saved, combined, or delivered
to other programs. Used in a help-desk application, Opus can generate
documents for AFP printing and, at the same time, create PDFs for
archival. The PDF versions are normally available online even before the
printed versions are in the mail.
Opus Archive enables a dramatic reduction in hardware and infrastructure
investment, even when it is scaled to enormous sizes. The system is
deployed on the Elixir Blue Ocean Appliance, a standalone rack-mount
server, and all storage is external. System installation and setup time
runs between one to five days.
A global company now in its twenty-first year, Elixir builds end-to-end
solutions for managing documents that express your business.
